Commenting on the closure of Stretford’s last cinema, the Essoldo be a bingo hall – the Reverend Frank Wright rector of Saint Matthew’s, Stretford, says “we are poorer for its loss.

“As with churches, so with cinemas-we only take notice of them when they close. They may keep going in the midst of indifference, but the indifference will turn to cries of ‘shame’ when they are taken away.“
