What’s your vision for the buildings future usage?

Following last weeks newspaper item, there have been a record number of visitors to the site and I’ve had 8 requests for the owners details so they can put usage suggestions or offers of help to them. Unfortunately, the owner hasn’t put their details in the public domain and it isn’t ethical (or probably very legal) for me to do this so I don’t. I don’t have any contact with the owner but am aware that they or their associates may read this site from time to time.

What would be great is if anyone with ideas to comment on this post with your suggestions to the owner (as you never know who might be reading). Please do not post your phone number or address, only email contact if you really want to. If you have something very specific in mind (e.g. you are part of an organisation with interest), you can email me by clicking here and I will record your interest privately.

  1. Hi, I’m a local filmmaker and I’ve always had a high interest in the goings on of the Essoldo resurrection, particularly now as progress is being made with some front scaffolding!

This would be a brilliant venue to hold gigs in like it used to, but at the same time, it would be essential NOT to make it a nightclub because I think this would attract the wrong sort of crowd.

Something like the Apollo would be a winner if it was marketed correctly. It would attract top bands and that in itself would pay for the running costs on a monthly basis.

To reopen it as a cinema could work if it accommodated the above suggestion, however on it’s own merits I don’t think it would be able to compete with the Trafford Centre Odeon and if it was an arthouse cinema like the Cornerhouse… it’s not the right area for that sort of thing.

Anyway, I hope the owner does read this and has a good idea of what he wants to do with it.

I’m sure he does! (wink, wink, nudge nudge)

  2. I seem to have missed the Metro article but it’s nice to see that the cinema is finally getting some TLC. You asked for suggestion e-mails on the FB page. Well I can only think of the one main one – a community cinema…..along the lines of either Chorlton Film Institute or John Millington of WrayFlix outside Preston (rather than the souless ones we have now). It could be run along the lines of The Cornerhouse and I’m sure there are rooms that could be designated for other activities. Unfortunately we lost our cinema in Urmston a couple of years ago despite my trying to drum up interest in keeping it open – surely the people of the area can get behind a local community cinema….
