Every town worth mentioning needs its own cinema. The true sign of a town on the rise again is a cinema re opening on its high street and it looks like Stretford is about to get its cinema back.

There’s just one snag, it’s not the cinema THAT cinema, the one that has stood pickled, ready and waiting for 60 years since its last film was screened. Instead it’s a new build just across the road as part of the Stretford Mall and King Street redevelopment.

If the new build happens, it’ll be great. The operator will be The Northern Light Cinema, who have other venues, including heritage venues (yes they did try) across the North West. They are a great company and this is good news for Stretford

There is a tinge of sadness to this development though. It removes one more possible re usage from the hands of the Longford Essoldo Stretford if it is ever released from its shackles. What happens next?

For now, settle down for some nostalgia at the original and still very much present Stretford cinema courtesy of website contributor John Ryan HERE.
